FORANT,
ISAAC-LOUIS DE, naval officer, knight of the order of Saint-Louis, third
governor of Île Royale (Cape Breton Island); b. probably in the
mid-1680s, at La Tremblade (department of Charente-Maritime), 25
miles southwest of Rochefort; d. unmarried on 10 May 1740, at
Louisbourg. He was the grandson of Job de Forant (1612–92) who,
following his conversion from Calvinism, rose to the rank of rear-admiral
in the French navy in 1686.

ISAAC-LOUIS DE, officier de marine, chevalier de Saint-Louis, troisième
gouverneur de l’île Royale (île du Cap-Breton) ; né probablement vers
1685 à La Tremblade, dans le département de la Charente-Maritime, à 25
milles au sud-ouest de Rochefort ; mort célibataire le 10 mai 1740 à
Louisbourg. Il était le petit-fils de Job de Forant (1612–1692) qui, à
la suite de sa renonciation au calvinisme, fut promu au grade de chef d’escadre
dans la marine de guerre française en 1686.

naval officer, fourth commander of Île Royale; b. probably in the
mid-1680s; m. in Martinique in the 1730s Marguerite Girault Du Poyet,
by whom he had two daughters and a son; d. 9 Oct. 1744 in
Louisbourg, Île Royale (Cape Breton Island).
